Frat boys on their porch 1: "Let's black out tonight!" 2: "Neil, did you black out last night?" Neil: "No." 2: "Why not?!?!" Ugh, I can already tell tonight is going to be revenge of the drunk Delts. Kthanx, your convos are verrrry amusing and crap, now STFU!!!! (Any one wanna place a bet on how many cases of alcohol poisoning we'll have tonight?)
Wed, May. 7th, 2008, 11:09 am When did I fall down the rabbit hole?
It's just going to be one of those days ....
I decided last night (at 1 a.m.) not to go into work this morning. Already, it seems like a wise decision: - I sent in my app for the internship just a few minutes ago (finally!!). Here's hoping (a) the position is still open and (b) I get it. (But even if I don't, I have a kickass resume and a template for cover letters.) - I should have all my critiques for creative writing done within the next two hours. That puts me WAAY ahead of my usual time frame (usually I don't start working on them til Wednesday night). - I couldn't keep my breakfast down - a single slice of buttered bread! Its mate is still sitting on my desk, staring at me with buttery eyes. WTF, where the hell did that come? Still, I'd much rather be sick here than at work, or god forbid, in my car!!
Tue, May. 6th, 2008, 12:11 am Skillz ... I has them (???)
Quick update: no hives out-break. But I had ice cream for dinner (Ben and Jerry's New York something-something-fudge-something) cause I still felt miserable and sorry for myself Anyways ... I'm working on redoing my resume. (The fact that I should have been working on it this hard oh, a week ago, is besides the point.) I'm stuck on the "Skills" section. This is what I have so far: Writing: copy writing, copy editing using AP stylebook, collaborating with a group to produce documents. Software: Captivate, Dreamweaver, Microsoft Word and Excel, SurveyMonkey, various online blog and profile websites. I feel like I need one more "category" of skills. (Yes, the fact that I know Captivate software is important to the job I'm applying for.) And the job? It's an internship for a tech company, to be writing user guides, help docs, etc. And it's paid, pretty decently. (God, I'm such a money whore ... but that's also besides the point.) Maybe just an "other" category ... but what to put in it? And I will be including writing samples with my app. Hmm, I think I need to sleep on it (again). Tho I really really REALLY should get this out tomorrow ... I've been putting this off a little too long.
Mon, May. 5th, 2008, 03:18 pm EFF U GAWD!!!
I feel like I'm about to break out in hives - itchy skin up and down my arms, tight throat, short, prickly bouts of itchiness on my back, scalp, neck, etc. I downed two benadryl right away and slathered on the cortizone, so hopefully that nips it in the bud. I'd rather not break out in the middle of class (if I HAVE to break out, it better happen BEFORE I go to class). I think I know what caused this (mold in my ice tea bottle, which I only noticed AFTER I drank some with lunch, goddammit), but that's little comfort right now.
Mon, Apr. 28th, 2008, 11:41 pm Fall schedule
just signed up for 2 fall classes (already!): English 744 Desktop Publishing Monday 4-6:45 Engl 743 Science and Medical Writing Thursday 4-6:45 I'll either do an internship that quarter or just work more. Maybe do a little freelance. There's nothing else I really want to take, and the lower cost of part time would help stretch my moneyz.
Fri, Apr. 18th, 2008, 09:11 am it's a QUAKE!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080418/ap_on_re_us/midwest_earthquake_15"WEST SALEM, Ill. - A 5.4-magnitude earthquake that appeared to rival the strongest recorded in the region rocked people up to 450 miles away early Friday, surprising residents unaccustomed to such a powerful Midwest temblor. The quake just before 4:37 a.m. was centered six miles from West Salem, Ill., and 66 miles from Evansville, Ind. It was felt in such distant cities as Chicago, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, and Des Moines, Iowa, 450 miles northwest of the epicenter, but there were no early reports of injuries or significant damage."
It's true, I felt the shock waves as they passed through Cinci. I woke up about 5:20ish this morning - "wtf, why is my bed vibrating? hmm, am i being abducted?" (the abducted thing just popped into my head for half a second - I was thinking of the Pixar short "Lifted," for all you who've seen Ratatoille.) The vibrations only lasted maybe 30 seconds. It felt like their was a big truck driving right by my window or that my room was sitting right on top of a running furnace (forget for a moment that my room is on the 3rd floor).
Quite frankly, that was just enough earthquake for me - enough to be weird, but not scary in any way.
Tue, Apr. 15th, 2008, 05:33 pm no orchestra
So I've decided not to do orchestra this quarter. Tuesdays just aren't good for me anymore, what with working Tues & Wed and having two 3-hour classes on Thursday. Mon, Apr. 14th, 2008, 01:22 pm welcome to my day
Mon, Apr. 14th, 2008, 12:09 pm Not dead.
_iou_one_galaxy is not dying anymore! Let it be duly noted that I am rejoicing! (Not that I would have allowed her to die in the first place, but, ya know, she gets cookies for not making me come up there to kick her ass for continuing to die.)
Mon, Apr. 14th, 2008, 10:33 am Yarn is my kryptonite
So I broke down and bought for
Sun, Apr. 13th, 2008, 11:41 am New Project Possibility
Hoodie Mariah - yarn will cost roughly $40-$50.
Sun, Apr. 13th, 2008, 11:32 am Pretty colors!
Well, I guess I'll be making some socks in the upcoming months. So of course now it's time to think about color! For the fishnet knee-highs, I'm thinking about 516 chartreuse: I think the blues and purples would look weird, esp. with my really pale skin.
Fri, Apr. 11th, 2008, 06:02 pm Yarn prices are a bitch
Sooooo it turns out only 4 of the 9 projects I chose have yarn that costs less than $75: the three sock patterns and the Back To School U-Vest. So it's knit those ... or start fucking around with the whole substitute yarn bullshit. *Ugh* On the plus side, Lickety-Split and Pedicure Socks require yarn that should cost approx $10 for each, and the yarn for Fishnet Knee-Highs and Back2School Vest should each come to about $30. That's certainly acceptable.
Fri, Apr. 11th, 2008, 09:22 am Yarn dreams
So just thinking about buying yarn made me feel so much happier! Of course yarn buying goes hand and hand with pattern selections. I figure on buying yarn for two or three patterns. First pattern: I want to make one of three three socks I have queued on ravelry. Pedicure SocksLickety SplitFishnet Knee-Highs - the only problem with this one is the pattern is in a book I have at home. Well, I'd be going home sometime in May anyways, right? Second pattern: I've been kinda thinking about making a vest for myself - sweaters are great, but sewing sleeves on is a bitch. And sometimes you just don't need sleeves. Third patter: Sweater/hoodie. If I start this spring, it will be done (maybe) by late fall Nantucket Jacket Central Park HoodieI've been drooling over all three of these patterns for a while So ... what y'all think? The yarn choices will in part depend on price - I'm not paying $100 or something equally ridiculous for yarn for one project. But I am willing to pony up a little more to get the "right" yarn. When I get home from work, I'll start looking into the yarn cost for all three projects. I may even end up doing 2 of the sock patterns and 1 of the six sweaters/vests. We'll see.
Fri, Apr. 11th, 2008, 09:12 am Ravelry and Yarn and Books
So I've jumped on the whole Ravelry.com bandwagon. My favorite feature is the "Queue," where you can organize all the patterns you want to knit. I'm at 25 and counting. Not sure if everyone can view my ravelry stuff. But I may need to go on a yarn buying binge this weekend. In addition to buying books. I want to get Kelly Link's Magic For Beginners - I heard her read one of her new stories last night, and it was amazing. I want to get some other new books as well, but there's just too many to chose from! Can you tell I'm feeling blue and sorry for myself? But it's true that new books and new yarn are the best cures for teh dupreshun.
Mon, Apr. 7th, 2008, 11:40 am serious WTFs
ONE
Ok ND, you are in the bathroom, with the shower running ... so WHY are you yakking on your cell phone. Either (a) you're wasting water as you stand outside of the shower yakking up a storm, or (b) you are IN the shower yakking on your cell phone. I'm hoping for (b)+electrocution. Or at least that you somehow drop your cellphone in the water.
Seriously, it's called a brain - GROW ONE.
kthnx noluv,
Me TWO
To all guys on teh internetz. The following line has been banned from ALL conversation: "What's a girl like you still doing single?"
Seriously, no. Worst line EVER for trying to make casual conversation. Talk about a probing question masked in a weak compliment.
The next guy who asks me that is going to get a reply something along the lines of, "BECAUSE I'M A CRAZY PSYCHO AND I KILLED MY LAST BF AND NOW I'M ON THE RUN FROM THE FEDS."
Actually, I'll prolly just end up asking, "What's a guy like you still doing single?"
Ugh. Stupid boys need not message my dating profile, kthnxdie.
And OKCupid? How 'bout we add an IQ filter, mmmk?
Sat, Apr. 5th, 2008, 08:00 pm gr.
stupid boys make me cranky. especially the well-meaning ones. fail still equals fail. Fri, Apr. 4th, 2008, 02:05 pm Where it is and is NOT appropriate to use "fuck"
It IS appropriate in the classroom ... in upperlevel undergrad and grad classes, anyways. To paraphrase my creative writing professor, "Attendance is mandatory, because if people miss their turn in dates for workshopping, we get a whole big clusterfuck on our hands." Since the class is Engl 413/613, the use of "clusterfuck" and any other variation of the work "fuck" is acceptable, so long as it is used as a noun or adjective. After all, Big Brother is not spying on us in the decrepit dungeons of Zimmer Hall. It is NOT appropriate to use on a dorm's community whiteboard across from a meeting room which is used by many philanthropic groups. It is ueber unappropriate to use "fuck" (esp. as a verb) when replying to a community-wide message to keep the kitchen clean. And it's just plain old dumb to threaten people with violence when they keep erasing your "fuck"-peppered messages. Seriously, grow a brain and grow up. Thank god SH is investigating - they were able to compare your handwriting to their records and now they have a suspect and are contacting the police. So enjoy your self-made clusterfuck of disciplinary action.
Sun, Mar. 30th, 2008, 11:03 pm Halle-freakin-lujah!
Finally checked my grades for winter quarter: straight A's, not a minus in sight! Feel free to hate me now. ;-)
